. . . that was issued to the US military. This particular example was probably distributed thru civilian (meaning: war surplus) means, and unlikely to have seen combat. Gone to a friend's collection last year.
Shortly after its departure, the longing for a military model led to this acquisition:

Ω ref UK2292, ca '43. Similar to the ref 2179 in that it was produced to order for the British military. This example may have seen combat, possibly at 20000 feet.
