I might find it hard to see the blue hands against the grey dial, depending on the angle and light.

Congratulations - what a magic watch.

Grey for me, purely because to me it is a 'classic' Voutilainen dial colour.

But the white is stunning as well. No wrong answer here.

And with a movement that well finished, I'd also be tempted from time to time to reverse the strap and wear the watch with the back facing up...

Come on Anthony - Which one - either or. 

I think the rules I am setting are:

1. If someone answers with more than one reply - i count the reply stated first as the official "vote"
2. If someone says "I like both" - the default vote would be for the Silver/White dial. 

In anycase - I am truly surprised at the overwhelming response for the Grey/Blue dial. 

I wonder if Grey-ish dials are a fad, trend or if they are here to stay.  Its been a solid 10 years that there have been greyish dials on watches.

I really would have a difficult time choosing. 

If you put a gun to my head and made me choose, I may then have to choose the silver dial because that watch will be more versatile with your outfit IMO.

But if I chose the silver dial, I would always think, "I wonder how the grey dial would look on my wrist?"

more contemporary,flamboyant and will get more glances IMO. Silver is traditional,conservative and for quiet pleasures and longevity it gets my vote.

...(such as the Observatoire) the grey would be [is...] sensational. On a chrono you want ease of reading first and foremost, hence a personal vote for silver  - on that watch.  Oh, and a blued hand on the western subdial would be an interesting option as well.

Personally I think it's good to keep the chronograph and civil time hands separate colours.

But I do agree about legibility of a chronograph and the silver dial. But one thought: do you think that a 'dress chronograph' which I am classing Kari's work as, should be considered in the same vein as a 'sport chronograph' where legibility is paramount? The answer is probably a personal one, but I am going with the grey dial because I know my answer.

.... of the purpose in selecting the chronograph' 'complication' in the first instance. If you intend to use it as designed, then why not opt for optimum functionality? If you do not, then why select it at all? Indeed, to paraphrase a recent HoMe moderator, there's probably a whole thread in the question "Is the phrase 'dress chronograph' an oxymoron?". ;-)

Your point in differentiating civil and chrono function is well made.

Although I worry slightly (what, me paranoid?) that it’s only in my head, I actually do differentiate “Dress” from “Sport” Chronographs. Although I acknowledge that there are many watches that have a foot in both camps (the Daytona and Speedmaster come to mind, as well as the Richard Mille’s). The differentiation is primarily based on size, metal, design and use.

 

Full on sport chronos should be robust, not be made of precious metals, and should have legibility and functionality as their primary goal. They are used when messing around with balls and mud, or nitrous and methanol.

 

Dress chronos, on the other hand, are usually in precious metals, possibly in larger cases and legibility is secondary to their elegant or avant-garde appearance. They are used to time how quickly the barista prepares the morning espresso, or how long the car has been parked outside the Cartier Boutique. The Dress Chronograph is the modern day 4x4 / SUV that never sees the mud.

Andrew, you wear whatever you like when playing with your balls and your mud - no one here will think less of you. Whether it's a 'sports' chrono or a 'coffee sports' chrono will remain a matter of debate, but as was said of a certain pollie lately: "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig".

The silver dial speaks to me more. The classic silver dial is even more timeless than the gray dial in my opinion.

Go for the silver dial if you want a classic looking watch.

Go for the grey dial if you want a sportier modern timepiece.

I prefer the silver dial...... easily, for its clearer legibility, more classic and simple (the best things life.....) appearance.
Thats the one I would go with, without a doubt.
But yes, having two is always a huge bonus. You can go with one for some months, switch to the other after another few months, and then see which one you would like to retain on your watch long term.
And....... nice watch!

I absolutely loved the first photos of this watch with the silver dial, but based on these pictures I'd have to go with the mouse fur.  Looks really classy, very much in the KV mode, and of course Kari's personal Observatoire has a mouse fur dial...

Great for you that you have them both!

...although I also like both but this is a 55/45 split and the edge goes to the more versatile silver for me.

i would get the grey dial.
