The movement was from a pocketwatch - he has reworked the movement so much, that Kari said it doesn't compare to the original anymore.
Kari has modified the movement to be about 7mm smaller than it was originally and completely replaced the gear train, mainspring and escapement. The movement is really beautiful in person. The watch is 42mm - to me, its perfect! It has better proportions than a 5070 - I love that the movement fills the caseback!
... and what else is in the collection. For a white metal case I prefer the white dial. But the grey dial looks superb too and, being a chronograph, the watch lends itself to a more casual appearance. The grey dial would look impressive against a RG case too.
On balance I will be going with the majority and saying "grey". No wrong answer here. Congratulations on another fantastic Voutilainen.
Certainly, in pictures the grey has more of immediate interest going on, but, to me, the silver/white is cleaner and less busy. The silver/white may be the watch you might really wish to wear day in and day out. Since you've had with that face and already, you know how you like it. I do agree with everyone who would have you ask how it would relate to the other watches in your collection. Which face really might work better, and certainly which may fit in with your daily needs, is hard to tell from the photos. What is not hard to tell is that either way the watch will continue to extraordinary. This message has been edited by SethRL on 2011-01-04 14:35:17
