Steel wheels vs starry seas. And how is DB after sales service?
Think I already asked the question about how DB after sales service but interested since I'm definitely valuing this more than ever. Tried on both the starry seas and the steel wheels. I honestly thought that the starry seas would be the easy pick but I liked the mirror polishing and style of the steel wheels much more than I expected. I also thought db28 had screw down crowns, but neither of these did.
I can't answer your question in good conscience since I haven't seen either in the metal.

Hah because it basically is. I wasn't sure about how out there DBs designs are but to me at least it has an identity vs so many new Indies that all look interchangeable
The Steel Wheels is so much more impressive to me as I find the mirror polishing effect impressive along with the openwork-like wheels.
Plus, the large delta aesthetic is a hallmark of DBs forward thinking / futuristic designs.

The Starry Seas and Steel Wheels are two of my favorite watches.
They are supremely comfortable to wearâboth light and perfectly sized. And they both demonstrate DBâs ingenuity and finishing skills, though in very different ways. The Starry Seas can,
perhaps, be worn in a broader array of settingsâit works with a suit (especially on a nice strap) and with shorts and a t-shirt (on a rubber strap). The Steel Wheels is a bit bolderâcertainly more noticeable on the wristâand thus is less suitable if trying to remain more discreet.
I canât speak in detail to DBâs after-sales services, which in some ways is a positive reflection on the watches.

Tough choice.
I'd lean toward the Starry Seas myself, since I can't resist De Bethune's blued titanium, and I don't think there's anything else like that microlight texture out there. Open dials and mirror polishing are more commonplace design features, and besides, you can always admire the Star Trek emblem and mirror finishing through the Starry Seas case back. (I'm also willing to bet that the Starry Seas dial is far more legible.)
My DB hasn't required maintenance yet, so I can't speak to the after-sales experience. I have some concerns on this point, but I hope that having The 1916 Company at the helm will make for a better US service experience. I would certainly expect the watch to spend several months overseas for any kind of service, but many of us are accustomed to that in any case.

I do agree that the openwork aesthetic is becoming overdone. It's the new indie starter pack style. I do agree about the DB bluing
DB aftersales has been excellent and I think the screwdown crown is just for the "dive" watches?
My DB28 has been to service twice, the first time for dirt / debris on the inside of the dial from (maybe) going in the water with the crown out. Oops! The did a full cleaning gratis (I paid shipping) and had they watch back to me in maybe 4 months. The second service was after WB had completed the acquisition and I had put a huge scratch right in the middle of the crystal that was too hard to ignore. Communication this time was way better, the WB/DB service adviser was responsive and pro-actively kept me in the loop, provided and initial eta and updates when there were delays, really good. Service was initially estimated at 4 months but stretched to 6 and they did not require a full service, just a nominal cleaning fee and the cost of the crystal. I'm not sure if it's still true but I believe servicing at DB used to route the watches in for service back to the original watchmaker if possible so sometimes that might take a little longer but that sounds good to me. I still haven't actually done a full service on my watch but last I checked service costs were reasonable as well. I would have zero concerns regarding aftersales with De Bethune and actually I think its a value add compared to some indies out there.
