The Zenith Caliber 707 Observatory Movement "Kartoffel" makes a Return.
I found this on Instagram and was pleasantly surprised π
He has a very interesting Profile, works together with Cyril Brivet-Naudot who is a well known Independent Watchmaker at Art Mecaniques. He also worked closely with Simon Brette on his watch. Won an Award for One of the best craftsmen of France competition 2014/2015 for a Star-wheel (satellite time display) on ETA caliber 6497 watch.
Crash vibes although nowhere near a copy. My only question is about what I assume is the crown on the back of the watch. Does/would that affect how comfortable it wears on the wrist?
I kind of misspoke with the Crash reference. I think it is the most popular/well known asymmetric watch out there and I think new asymmetric models will be compared to it whether it was intended or not. Making the case around the contours of the case makes sense and the result is a very interesting cool looking watch.
Nice to see people worried to make these movements alive ! BTW, I have a question, what are the added indexes on your watch's sub-second dial (@25 and 35) ? They seem to have been added there and I guess for a reason ?
The two small black strips located at 6 o'clock are an indication that the watch was used at the Neuchatel Observatory Chronometer Competion during the 1960s, the strips are Precision Markers used for measuring the accuracy of the seconds hand as it crossed the 6 o'clock position.
