Wasn't expecting this comparaison as I don't see similarities there but we have all our biases, don't we ?
If we are following your comment, could we then conclude that Richard Mille mixed a Franck Muller and a Royal Oak ?

I find really weird answering this kind of questions.
I am not having any biases, as a fan of beautiful things, I am interested by new brands and visions: hence my recent post of Lederer CIC or a couple of years ago Richard Mille.

Omega sea master did the shape in the 70’s and then a small brand (Brew Watches) also used it more recently imo
I guess the first Tonneau shape was Cartier

Was a theme in 70’s design. A number of brands did it. There were varying degrees of arcing and bulging the basic form that resulted

I think it was generally under appreciated and perhaps the dawn of the quartz movement completely overshadowed what was going on in terms of design and really the introduction of color to a degree that really hadn’t been seen before. I think it also ushered the adoption of the modern sizing we have today on a mass scale.
Generally speaking, we need more cases which are not round.
So on that basis alone I’m interested to see this.
Unfortunately, due to the success of RM over the last decade or so, any brand that comes to market with a case remotely similar or pitched in a similar way, will draw comparison and potentially negative talk of copy cat. It’s unfair, as case design does seem to be widely repeated across traditional round shapes.
Buts let’s see what the rest of the product may look like, then we can see if they can bring an original design in terms of the whole package.
I for one would love to have a watch with a super sporty case like RM, which is the ultimate sports watch of my collecting years, but which is not a RM lookalike or wannabe.
Keep us updated, since you initiated this thread I’m encouraging you to follow up and share as more details become available.

You're absolutely right: any tonneau case is related to Richard Mille, usually by lack of historical knowledge. Franck Muller popularised it a lot in the 90s, then came Richard Mille with the success we all know.
Nevertheless there are many other iterations of rounded, square shapes or different as recently Berneron (similar to a Cartier crash) also depending the inspiration or technical approach. If you have a Tourbillon skeletonized, you are also a Richard Mille copy cat !
Same in the automotive industry : you car hardly recognize a Mercedes from an Audi or a BMW.
I am not very active as I am traveling a lot and still enjoying reading the community time to time but I'll keep you updated.

This case actually looks nothing like an RM...OR a Franck Mueller.
If anything it has some similarities to the Patek posted recently by Ivan5...but even then they are distant cousins at best.
