and I am curious about the dial on the one between the 247 Anniversary and the 4178 Chronograph. This might be the first time I've seen all 3 flavors of Saltarello in one place at one time. Love the EP 81180 and Mercator, and 3 generations of steel sport watch (Deep Stream on bracelet is always nice to see).

If I could have only one piece from that set I would have a very tough decision to make!

...to see all three metals of the Saltarello in the same place.  Well, until recently I had not even seen the yellow gold version on its own.  ;-)

There was no 247 Anniversay piece, so I am not sure which one you are referring to in the picture. 

I will try to post some additional photos including the vintage pieces, but my photos are not great due to trembling hands with so many beautiful treasures within the grasp of my greedy hands.

I think there are some reflections on the crystals of a couple of pieces in the back of the photo that make it hard to tell what they are.

Did you pick up a 4178 somewhere along the way?

The "Batman" is always a crowd pleaser.  I love the linen dial on this example, which is just in superb condition.




This photo shows at least three of the vintage pieces, although not in great detail.

So I will just pick one of the special pieces (among the MANY).  I feel guilty about all the ones I am not mentioning, but I have to leave some of the fun to the others.

I will take an easy one - the 222.  Beautiful example there.

Must have been an eye opener! My group here can achieve this for Lange but not VC. Recently my friends and I visited the VC Singapore boutique and we were all reminded of our love for VC. For me, it was and will always be my first love. Hopefully there is a VC for me in SIHH 2015's offering. smile

In your pic, the rare VC that caught my attention has to be the the Mercator. A VC Mercator is always so special !

...among this group of watches, the Mercator was not the star of the show.  ;-)  There were just too many showstoppers present, in fact. 

But the Mercator is a special watch from VC, without a doubt.  In my mind it is an iconic piece for the brand because it shows of VC's skills and artistry and it is like no other watch. It represents the very best of Vacheron Constantin.

Looking forward to seeing what your next VC will be...

It does some what reinforce the fact that the luxury end of the market favors leather...

Is it comfort, cost or fashion.  all three.

Or is it simply sport watches vs dress watches.

The metal bracelet on the 4178 is extremely rare and changes the character of that vintage chronograph a lot, IMHO. I think I would prefer that one on a leather strap, but it is dazzling to see it on the gold bracelet, and perhaps after wearing it awhile, I might be very convinced by the bracelet.  smile

The three generations of VC's sports watches presented us with three generations of VC bracelets, each with their own merits.  In my experience, there is not much out there more luxurious than the current generation Overseas bracelet.  It feels and looks like no other bracelet.  For me it is really unbeatable on the wrist.  That said, I also really enjoy the Overseas on leather and rubber straps.

So...let's see...eeny, meeny, miny, mo...

The Saltarellos are lovely - that case, the guilloched dial, that fantastic long hand.

The Mercator is super-cool, a unique concept, a conversation piece, a work of art and an idea that is close to my geographer's heart.

The 222 is really so subtle.

And the left-handed Overseas is not only incredibly rare (only three made if I'm not mistaken?) but, with that blue dial, just...what a beast.  There's something about the combination of the stick hands (remind me of my dad's old Rolex - simple, no messing around), the bracelet (so solid and a bit bold) with that dial.  Plus I'm left-handed and wear my watch on my right hand - I like the date being hidden on the right, under my cuff, but it would be great to manipulate the crown with my left hand.  Overall, *Phwoarrrr!*

What a lunch that must have been!
