VC overseas VS Rolex sky dweller

I'm lost between vc overseas automatic in rose gold with leather strap and Rolex sky dweller in everose gold with leather strap. I first fall in love with sky dweller which look stunning but I describe it as "drug dealer's" watch as it is so loud and catchy. But I love the feel, look and technical aspect.
Yesterday when I visit vc store and have a second look at the overseas, it looks so refined. Subtly loud but low profile. Although vc has better brand image, I think other than overseas longer history than sky dweller, overseas is short in technical advancement as compares to sky dweller.
However, I think the overseas can be an everyday watch and can be evening piece but the sky dweller is more evening use rather than for daily office wear.
Any thought on this 2 very different animal?
I also hope both will have open back case. Do you think there will be chance in the future the watch will show their back side?

If i was choosing.....
.....on this one i would go VC. It is more subtle and has more of an element of classicism to it. The sky dweller is just an altogether different animal.
This is ALL personal taste..... it depends what you want from it

Hi Baron, I total agree with you. Actually I have the answer. I love both of them but......
I can only afford one of them and would like to see how others look, analyse and compare these two different animals.

I am a white metal guy.....I have very few dress watches, mostly tool..... i prefer very simple watches, with as few complications as possible....

Since your interest is on a Rose Gold Overseas, try the Rose Gold Dual Time on a strap. It is a bit more expensive, but is worth every extra dollar. Overall, the Overseas in Pink Gold is more unique and more of a classic "sports watch". It comes with an amazing second rubber strap and has what I think is the best deployant clasp out there. Also, there is a chance that we will see a new Overseas with an open back, when VC decides to come out with a new generation the following year(?). On the other hand, there are zero chances to see the Sky Dweller with an open back!
But, to answer your question to the point, between these specific two models you are suggesting, I would go for the Sky Dweller.

The Overseas is a great daily wearer.....
whether steel or gold, as many participants here will attest. I don't have experience with the Rolex. This is such a personal choice, too. I have always found Rolex's Everose to be too bright for my taste. Good luck with your decision.

Agree to go with the Dual Time version of the Overseas
the aesthetics are a completely personal choice - for me, I love the VC Overseas line.
Beyond the purely aesthetic, I ask what you value in a watch. Rolex and Vacheron are pretty far apart when it comes to the "ethos". This too is somewhat of a personal thing, but for me, Rolex represents industrial innovation - more science than art. It is mass produced luxury. I don't mean this disparagingly in any way - they are more about the "excellence in manufacturing" aspect than anything else. They are, for me, the default answer for someone who wants a "nice watch:".
Vacheron, on the other hand, is all about elegance and tradition. Their pieces are every bit as technically amazing and even more (in my opinion) connected to tradition and more aesthetically beautiful. This is, to be sure, a personal preference.
For me, this decision is about the brand first and the watch second. I don't mean that in any sort of elitist or snobbish way, they are just very different approaches to the the art and craft and science of watchmaking.
There is no wrong answer, just a personal one. Good luck with your choice.

It really makes sense to compare the Skydweller to the Overseas Dualtime. In any case, however, I will take the Overseas (any model) over the Skydweller every day of the week and twice on Sundays. The VC is just beautifully finished inside and out.
Rolex does pack a lot into the Skydweller, for sure, but I am not such a big fan of the annual calendar complication and I don't really care for the design of the month display in this instance. I think it is useful for setting the precise date but not for actually reading which month it is. I do love dual-time complications, and here, in either case you can't go wrong.
On the VC I like the extra water resistance at 15 bar, which let's me swim comfortably with the watch (may not be a concern of yours at all). The rubber strap on the VC is awesome. The bracelet is also the most beautiful there is IMHO (but in gold it will be very expensive). The architecture of the Overseas case and the bezel really speak to me, but again these aesthetical aspects are matters of personal taste.
Disclaimers: I am a frequent poster on the VC forum, so you can probably guess which brand is my favorite. I own and wear (almost daily) an Overseas Chronograph. I am trying to rationalize the addition of a second Overseas into my small collection -- and I have almost convinced myself. :-/

Again, it comes down to personal taste, and the Sky Dweller just doesn't ring my bell. A gold GMT might though...
I just became an Overseas owner this week and it has not left my wrist. As mentioned, the clasp and band is extremely well thought out and comfortable, and integrated with the case. I went with a Chrono, not because I needed to time anything, I just liked the aesthetic. I toyed with the time only version, and looked at the dual time, but ultimately the Chrono won out.
No wrong answers, only choices!
I never liked time date Overseas
But I love the chrono OS. Believe it or not in this case, Rolex all the way. The sky dweller is a busy techy watch but it oozes Rolex DNA and if I were a red gold showy guy...
That would be my choice between these two. However, if you want to choose the true stunner, try the rose gold overseas chrono on strap... Now that will ring all your bells!

I may choose a regular Everose gold Rolex datejust over the VC but not the Sky Dweller which I feel looks a bit busy for my taste.

Thank you for all the invaluable analysis and comments. It think overall it is clear that overseas has the most "like" but sky dweller by no mean has no follower.
I really love os simple, elegant and low profile look. It's really a piece that you don't both whether anyone can recognize it is a luxury watch. You just don't bother and this is truly luxury. Love it for what you love.

However, I think a simple overseas looks better that dual time as I always like symmetric looking dial.
Sky dweller to me is a watch that may be a cult watch. Love it or hate it. OR in my case, I hate the look but I will still wear it because it is just that showy ugly beast. OR it's a watch that i may cultivate love over time wearing it. A. Watch that I have mixed feelings.
What I like about sky dweller is the symmetric look of the dial, the color combination of chocolate dial, everose gold and the brown strap. I think it is just such a perfect match.
Emm..... Like falling in love with someone I should not be in love with.
It maybe make sense to go for sky dweller now as pointed by RGS which I agree, there is zero chance to see open back case in future.
While there is a chance for vc to one day, allows a glimpse into the beauty of overseas via the back case which I really hope to see. Buy os later with open back case.
So which one will I go for? I'm still undecided. I plan to get it in December this year. OR earlier when I cannot hold on any longer and I just got to have it on my wrist.
Any maybe who know, until then it was none of overseas or sky dweller.....
Life is unpredictable and I shall be back here to share once I got the watch.........

I do not own any Rolex, and have only tried on a couple. So, I have no real expertise there. But reading your last comments lead me to have you consider another option. I own a Patek 5711. Symmetrical dial. Brown dial, which is very interesting In the light. Great clasp, and great strap. And open back. I think that covered all your comments.

As others know, I am a huge VC lover. And your VC choice would be my choice over the Rolex. Respo is correct, the rubber strap is just wonderful. I just added one to my OS chrono which was on the bracelet.

Thanks for sharing the lovely pic of the patek on your wrist. I have to say all my description of the overseas will be for your patek. And you know what? If I have that patek on my wrist, I will have trouble no to continue looking at it.
In fact, once upon a time, I do have a crash for this model of patek. Another aspect I like about models like 5711, overseas and some other models of other brand is the fact that these are the iconic models of the respective brand that I think 20 or 50 years down the road, the look will not change much. Maybe this is what I call heritage.
Wear you 5711 in good health 4Js and if there is a chance show us you OS chronos on you wrist.

AP - Royal Oak
check the 41 mm in Pink Gold; in both the white & black dial, it's a real beauty. IMHO better than the VC equivalent.
The Rolex is a different beast...the VC Chrono in Rose Gold with dual strap again stands to be compared with the AP RO Chrono. Here, the VC & AP seem more on par & it boils down to a personal choice. The VC does give an extra strap though....

Just to share my opinion and encounter with the RO.
If I remember correctly, 41mm model was released few years back. I found Early model below 40mm a bit small for my wrist and When I saw the 41mm in magazine, I thought I will have found a true love in AP for me as it does have all what I wanted. Symmetric, 3 hands, date and most importantly open back case (I love to see the coat of arms and AP logo on the rotor). But when I saw the actual watch I was a bit disappointed with the open back case. I think the window is a bit too small for the 41mm. The proportion is not so correct for me. Just my sharing of my encounter with RO.
I saw the 2014 offshore diver white ceramic in AP forum. Again this has all I wanted but white rubber strap is a bit difficult to maintain for daily wear. I think if the same ceramic bezel version if released in other color like black, blue, red or green, it any swing my choice of os or sky dweller to the AP OS diver. But then, I need to wait........
I do fully agree with you on vc os and Rolex.

Sorry to jump into this conversation on the late side. I believe the Vacheron Overseas is far superior to the Skydweller. The refinement mixed exclusivity makes the VC a home run. Exhibition backs may be in the future for VC, when they reintroduce the line with a VC movement in the case.

Definitely Vacheron Constantain is in a higher class than Rolex .The latter is not among the Haute Horology .
