I am a little bit pissed off
Zenith claims they want to give a great watch for a fair price. And I agree, some of their Chrono's are a bargain. I always said Zenith is THE bargain today.
So even if they would raise the price with 5 or 7 % like most other brands do every year, they would still be a great buy
BUT, I just discovered that the type 20 went up with almost 2000 euro .... :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
Not one piece has been delivered and somehow they go from 7800 euro to 9500 euro .... I guess 'because they can'. Sorry but I hate it when Panerai adds a few hundred euro to a new watch, a watch which hasn't been delivered yet, now Zenith does the same ... and we're not talking about a few hundred euro but 1700 euro !!!
In the Geneva Boutique they said the reason was that all of them will be delivered with a COSC certificate .... Good to know but afaik this costs 100, max 200 euro ...
Imo not fair
You should pass.
Seriously.
I would, if I were you, as a price is a price, and you can't change it between the unveil and the delivery.
Sometimes, clients have to say no. And if clients say no, the brands will change their behaviour.
That is mandatory.
Best,
Nicolas
I was told the demand was huge, at the first day of Basel they had more than 600 requests ... and if they only make 250 of them.
So if I would not buy it because of that unfair price increase , I'm sure a few hundred others would pay it without problem.
I want it, so I think I have no other option than paying A LOT MORE (22% more than the original price) but it leaves me with a bad feeling
of good value?
I had stated in a few of my much earlier posts here that Zenith watches (under Mr Dufour) were of great value. Then at the later part of last year, I found myself telling friends Zenith watches (most) were of good value. This year, I stopped recommending the watches as good value (not to mention great).
Unlike the past few years, I didn't get any Zenith this year.

So I can't agree they are not interesting anymore.
For me they are a bargain, just like 3 years ago. You can still get a top Chrono like the El Primero for less than 6000 euro. When I look at similar brand slike IWC, JLC, Panerai, Rolex, Blancpain, UN, ... they'll ask 50 till 100% more for a similar watch
If they would have said from the beginning the type 20 would cost 9.5K , I would not have a problem but launching it at 7800 and adding 1700 before one piece is delivered but only because they can is something I did NOT expect from Zentih. Only a few weeks ago I was listening to an interview with their CEO Mr Dufour on youtube. One of the things he said was ' we are a watch manufacture and not a marketing machine'
That sentence is not so credible anymore after the trick with the type 20
I just talked to somebody who ordered one in Switserland
And already months ago he was quoted the 11600 CHF which is almost 9500 euro. The 7800 I heard from a few dealers ...... might have been without taxes.
Prices in Europe are always taxes included but maybe they made a mistake here.
Add an average 20 - 22% to the 7800 and you'll get 9500 .... maybe it was always 9500
