Hi Robin,
Well, if Patek did the composite strap for Nautilus in a subtle blue, that might be tempting...but as it is the grey that's available is a bit drab. Couple the non-adjustable bracelet with the 324SC sticking date problem and the scratch-prone bezel and there are lots of things that make the 5711 far from perfect. On the other hand, I still am thinking about one. I just keep wishing PP would overhaul the clasp on the Nautilus to allow micro-adjustment and make the bezel out of something that doesn't scratch quite so easily.
VC with blue strap - well I'm not interested in the Overseas chrono, but there are the new blue-dial limited editions of the simple date and the dual time, and it IS a lovely colour, and they come with rubber and leather straps. I really wish I had some love for the simple model but the date window at 4.45 just drives me nuts, and then there are the numerals that cut into the indices; plus why does it have to tell you it's automatic and antimagnetic? That just makes the dial busy. Grrr. Hey, VC, meet AP15202! No extraneous dial text! But the dual-time looks much better, with the extra dial text hidden down in a corner. (Mind you, I do wonder about how the Overseas bezel will look after a few years - not to mention will dirt just live inside those internal angles on the cutouts?)
Hey, that makes me wonder about a 15202. Tried one on the other day and quite liked it, although the Nautilus suits my style better. The dial is great and it doesn't have the problem of the contrasting date window which the 5711 has. Of course it doesn't have an adjustable bracelet either...and that bezel is scratch-magnet-tastic. Some people say it's sacrilege to put one on a strap but I do wonder if that might not be an option...
Why can't anything just be perfect, darnit? Sigh.
E.
