I like a lot the spirit of your first picture. Congrats!

May it show you good times, only.

Fantastic Choice

IMHO, the annual calendars are the best watch Patek makes for the money. While technically not a "perpetual", the A/C functions like one, other than at the end of February. The 5396 has a sweep seconds hand, unlike the 5140 which has no seconds hand at all. Thus there is constant eye-catching movement on the watch. It might better be compared to the 5496, but at substantially less than 1/2 the price. Plus it has a great look - often compared to 3448/3450. And since you choose white, many would feel equally comfortable wearing it with jeans or a tux or anything in between.

Unusual, in a very good way, that you bypassed the more typical path of starting with a time only. Instead you went right for  the watch you coveted. Time only watches are superb, but they obviously didn't speak to you the way your grail watch did.

So a big congratulations!

I think an Annual Calendar is a wonderful choice for a first Patek watch.  Amongst the current ACs, I think the 5396G is the most elegant. Enjoy the watch!

Great first piece!

Great first piece.

My personal favorite annual calendar that Patek Philippe makes, and also the one I'd get if I were in the market for a perpetual calendar.

Good choice!  Not that you could've made a wrong choice.

Things to watch out for in the first several months of ownership, make sure you set it correctly, sometimes the dealers that sell you the watch are incompetent and set it incorrectly.

Secondly, keep an eye out for the month date not changing or changing incorrectly (not properly differentiating the 30/31 day months).  It's not unusual for an annual calendar's month wheel to not change over properly.

Last, enjoy!  The 5396 is all polished, so be careful and cautious when it comes to scratches.  But enjoy!

congrats...

I too got my first Patek a few years back and I recall other pieces I was considering at the time. An Annual Calendar 5146 had been my grail for several years and while I hadn't visited the PP boutique to buy one, I left with a 5146J as my first.

As many have stated here, wearing a "personal" grail is incredibly satisfying. That moon phase complication extremely mesmerising. And it truly is just the start to a different hobby, seeking out more wonderful Pateks.

A year since I got my 5146 and I've added a second Patek to my collection.

All the best!

Cheers M.
