A new Patek for me
I have been looking to add a Gondolo to my collection. I appreciate that many will say that THE watch to add is the 5100 or even the 5500. To be honest, I have tried both of these on and, well, it just looks completely wrong on my wrist. My wrist is on the small side and both of the above references need a bigger wrist. The depth of the watch or case size, almost certainly both cause the 5100 and 5500 to sit awkwardly with me.

Instead, I have looked for something more simple, less "prestigious" maybe, but something that rang the bell for me. And in the 5124G I found what I am looking for. White metal.....which is a big plus for me. Exquisite numerals....perfect for this watch. Case depth and size is almost perfect for my wrist....it sits on like a glove. Simple dial layout....again exactly what I am looking for. Now what about the "salmon" colour of the dial? Well, to be honest, this just is NOT a salmon dial. It does not have the pinkishness of a salmon at all. It has this golden hue to it which is superb in my view. When it catches the sun, it is breathtaking. Another feature of Patek dials is this ability on the dial character. This one does not disappoint.
So, when I had the opportunity to make a trade for this watch, I did not hesitate.

....i must say that what has surprised me with the 5124 is the dial variation from different lights. When a dial is flat or dead with no variation, I find that a negative feature on a watch. This 5124 has a great deal of life......

Truly a spectacular piece, I think you've chosen a winner!
Interesting to hear your view of the dial as I had always thought it more of a copper color than salmon as well.
As nice as this watch is from the front, the back is the real treat IMO. How often do we see round movements in rectangular cases? This is form and function in perfect harmony and a great expression of the watchmaker's art.
Simple though it may be, I think it's among the finest and a future classic. Sometimes less is more, especially when packaged as sublimely as the 5124.

uhm...i have a decent Patek blue-dial...
....so was looking for something with this style.

Sorry, but as nice as Patek's blue dials are I'm having a hard time seein it on this one. Different models are better suited for their color selections and while the blue works famously for the Elipse, nautilus, WT and really any of their sport models, the old world charm of this classic would be lost with a blue dial. Personally I think the copper works best here.
I wouldn't change a thing. Much more common with a white dial but well worth the extra effort if you're lucky enough to find the copper.

Joe, may I say that is a superb choice......
The dial is sublime and looked amazing under different light, it also fitted perfectly on my wrist when I tried it on. Unlike the 5100 & 5200 which I have tried and found to be too long for my wrist.

I never gave much thought to it either until i tried on the 5100 and 5500. I found both of those so impossible to wear that I was curious to see whether it was the generic shape of the case that didn't suit my wrist or not. But when I tried this 5124 on, it was like it was custom-made for me.
It would be dangerous to try one on. However, i will say this....it typically comes on a very glossy light brown strap. The strap? I really don't like it. Dark brown or black matte works for me.
