that there is no new 5131s or special nautilus... sorry... but that would be incredible... im sure they would have to retire the J & the G before they introduce the R & P, but something to look forward to!!!

Nothing new, nothing really affordable for non hedgefond runners, dictators or any other elites of the society.

One looks very like the IWC's grande complication, one looks even like a Vulcain Cricket watch!

The "Aquanaut" gets no mentioning at all, ooops it did...

Seriously: the black dial diamond models look at least most credible in theire design, the Gondolo 5033 in particular.

They were very hard words. Maybe they were a bit contrived too (except about the Aquanaut 5164, as ugly as sin). But they made me thinking and now I would like to ask you: regardless of our means and apart from our reasons (personal delight, investment, etc., etc.), what's the sense of buying a Patek Philippe if you live in an "underdeveloping country", understood as a rich country in an unprecedented and severe moral and material degradation?

As you know, the PP claim states "You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation." Well, apart from a beautiful watch, what will those citizens leave to the next generation???

the reason why we buy a PP or any watch of that magnitude is: due to theire beauty.

Regardless the price or the complications involved in each piece.

I was disapointed that no entrylevel watch was in the line up this year, but as I know now the 5153 G is a great looking piece and I have to say thank you

to Patek for this creation.

Also thank you for your post and criticism.


PS: The 5167 A was / is my favorite PP.

The combination of a timezone makes sense as the dial impregnation resembles the globe and the world.

It is a bit overcrowded as PP tried again to "stuff" too much function in it, hence the pointerdate.

Thank you very much for the new watch photo. I like the 5270 a lot but wonder will Patek has black dail version of it...

I hope he likes what he is doing, because from this collection, from what i see ( personally ), Thierry seems to want to depart himself from Patek Philippe, and create for himself which what i know. 

5208 mono pusher, perpetual minute repeater, this has got to be the most horrific looking thing i have yet to see from Patek Philippe. 

Keep that up Thierry, and you soon will lose all your loyal fans.

I'm struck by your aversion to the 5208P as "horrific," as my first impression is that it may be the most wondrous watch ever made.  Perhaps we're each responding in opposite ways to the same design cues.  It is only in this century that Patek has offered 12-hour chronographs, and to have this functionality in a perpetual minute repeater in a modern size with modern lugs excedes my expectations for an aspirational watch.

i agree partly with your comment, that the idea of coming up with a chronograph with perpetual calendar all inside a minute repeater is brililant, the concept is there, just not in this style of presentation.

i had no problem with the way 5207 was presented, it was smart, comfortable and smooth.  But squeezing this chronograph into it is a bit too much. 

my choice out of all the models for this year, would be ref 7000 ladies rose gold officier case minute repeater.  Since patek introduced ref 5029, i have always wanted this watch, i feel this is my second chance in life.  hope to see it in wg or pt case.

with the high exchange rate of current SFR, this patek 5208 will not only be hard to reach, but also extremely painful for those who plan on buying one.  to those who have the deep pocket, go right ahead.

Harsh - I like it, but seriously now - I can recall myself and many more of "us", when the 5960 first made its debut it was the laughing stock.  Many had strong opinions on the dial layout - choice of complication combination etc.  I admit, I was one of the nay-sayers, big time. 

Today - I own this watch and feel it is one of my all-time favorites.  The way the dial jumps in the light...the ease of reading the chrono, the ease of reading the date.  The feel of the crown, the pushers etc.

I dont think I'd be happy without this watch. 

And I hated it, publicly. 

Now, this particular watch - 5208 - slightly less attainable than a 5960, so maybe it makes more sense to "hate" it.....but, I think its one of the smartest, most well thought out dials I've seen in a while.  It has masculinity in its DNA.  Not something I get the sense of from every patek.  It is, to me, well done and until you see something like this in person, its best to reserve judgement. 

But - no matter what you and I think - they will sell what they can made because not everyone wears nikes!

I just saw my first "live" shot of the new 5207.  I dislike the press photos, but liked the dial in the "live" shot - we'll see....
