overall VERY disappointing.

what's with the diamonds??? not to mention the prices.

it reminds me of companies that build very extravagant and imposing buildings for their headquarters right before their demise......

5101 in white gold , but looking at the prices patek are starting to get unrealistic for most i fear.

Disappointed about most of the 2011 models except the 5270.  Hope to see a 5726/1A.  Could save the bullets for 2012.

As you might have seen already on Patek's homepage:

- the 5153 looks even COOL with a black dial

- the 6000 in RG very sublime

- the 5298 P with grey dial and diamond also quite cool looking actually, although most likely out of reach for many

 

So, only three out of 14 models that are reachable for a broader audience ... a few too few ... but at least ...

... And after seeing the prices on some of this pieces I can see why! Although I'm disappointed with this years collection I'm also relieved my 'wish-list' isn't going to get any longer. Last year's collection was a tough act to follow I guess.

First thoughts are that there are obviously a number of 2011 models made for an extreme high end clientele that wants and can afford very expensive and sophisticated timepieces (minute repeaters, tourbillons).

These timepieces can represent watchmaking at a high level.  Tho not a new model, I am partial to the 5207P.......barring lottery win, I will never own one, or any of the repeaters or tourbillons.  But I think watches like the 5207 support Patek research and the brand, keep it strong, and are consistent with what I perceive the history of Patek to be.

First thoughts on the 2011 collection,  also include the observation that there appears to be a trend towards offering men's watches with diamonds.  Maybe I'm behind the times.  Maybe I need to see some of them in the metal.  But gotta say that on first blush, the diamond men's watches feel "blingy", and dare I say, perhaps even that they do not do justice to the brand.

They are eyeing on the super rich China people . 

I totally agree that this collection is geared towards the china market where price is inelastic and bling is in demand. What else could explain the diamonds? Look at the price of the 5970g when it was last offered a few years ago and compare it to the gbp125k reported for the 5270g and tell me that Thierry's cost of production went up that much over the same period after adjusting for the price of gold? Did he really pay his watchmakers 75% more over the past 3 or 4 years? The pricing is getting out of control but in Thierry's defense, it's just business and you have to take the money when you can. I just doubt the business model can withstand a downturn in china.

... like in teh Arabic world and even in Europe.

I personally find the 5298P very tempting and teh 5033 models, but they are way out of reach.

But you are absolutely right: the price policy is beyond comprehension ...

Lucky that Lange is more understanding: see how many new novelties there are also for the "mortal".

I start to like Lange more and more as I believe in responsible, fair and sustainable trading / business.

It will not be a PPagain for me and definately not a new one from an AD.

It's pretty clear that the 2011 Patek models are aimed at the highest of high end consumers, and those men who prefer diamonds on their wrists. 

No judgments here.........its all a matter disposable income and aesthetics.........but as far as the 2011 Patek collection is concerned, it ain't me, babe, it ain't me the Sterns are lookin' for...........

... to the current currency turmoil, PP did not and still charge at very high currency rates the same as usual.

Quite arrogant actually.

I am only lucky to have bought my Ellipse 2 1/2 years ago, during the currency turmoil start;

now I would have to pay 30-40% ( !!! ) more ---- NO WAY  for me too, so you are right in your point ....

That Aquanaut is just a disastrous mess.

I agree with you. I think if they left off the local and home indicator/words it would look much nicer/cleaner.

The Aquanaut is not the one we talk much about when thinking about Patek, but with a steel bracelet for example it's a beautiful watch.

But something is clearly going wrong with this version...

That I am relieved, that there is nothing in this years collection, that falls anywhere within reach of my budget.

I can now concentrate on getting a Panerai

Though that is not say, that there are not pieces that I don't wish for, like the 5270 & 5208 & of course the 5207P

But in my dreams only, I'm afraid.

obviously, not all models excite me. i have to confess that some are straightforwardly "ugly". but... guess what: if someone would give me the ugliest Patek watch ever made as a present, i still would treasure it. probably because i have such a great personality, i can make even the "ugliest" Patek look beautiful, if i wear it. let's always remember that we wear Patek, and it's not the other way around. having said that, even the most beautiful Patek would look ugly on -say- mr. muammar's wrist.
