Need the members help in making a decision. I have the opportunity of trading my 5960P for a Doublesplit Platinum. I have weighed the pros/cons and come up with the same problem. I like the robust aspect of the Lange since I have a larger wrist. I like the 5960 for its functions. I wish the Lange had at least a date function. Will the Lange hold its value like the Patek? Both pcs are beautiful IMO and possibly you can offer me some advice. What would you do?
Recently, I was looking to buy a datagraph and chatted with a few Lange owners. I am not sure why this is the case, XXX
Getting away from price, my inclination would be the 5960. I think it is a classic Patek with nice history given it was, i believe, the first automatic chrono (will someone put me straight there if i am wrong).
As per forum rules, we don't discuss about value, thank you!
. If you like the looks, I would definitely go for the double split.
…because I love the 5960P and its calendar.

Maybe many will say that 5960 is not the best Patek chrono you can get in the rich Patek chrono family, but it is definitely a combination of true innovation, aesthetics and wear comfort. In addition, I trust Patek much more than a brand owned by a big listed company and managed by a car marketing manager.
Lange makes great watches such as Lange 1, Dato, Perpetual, etc. The Doublesplit, in my very own opinion, is too much, too artificial. In contrast with Doublesplit, the Patek 5959 doesn't leave this impression to me.
If I were you, I would keep the 5960, a true modern masterpiece with traditional craftsmanship.
In ten years time you and people who see the Patek on your wrist will acknowledge the quality, good taste and classic style of your watch. Lange do make superb watches but there is only one Patek Phillipe. We all suffer from "the grass is greener" effect now and then and that’s what is so fascinating about watches. On a final note take a look at the long term record that Patek Phillipe has at auction and the decision becomes fairly clear cut. I have personally experienced this with my Patek Phillipe that was made in 1952.
Good luck with your decision,
One last thought, why not keep the Patek and buy a white gold Lange "Zeitwerk" now that could be some combination !
.... back then, did this Lange Split cross your mind ?? Were you aware of this Lange split exsistance ?? XXX ?? These are details we dont know of ... ?! XXX . Will that be enough clues to help you decide ... ??
As per forum rules, we don't discuss about value, thank you!

Would be for the 5960P
The reason being that although the DS is a fantastic piece of craftmanship. I know that I would hardly ever use the DS complication.
Where as I would always use the Annual Calendar and occasionally the chronograph function.
Some members say that they don't worry about a watch having the date as they can always look at their mobile.
But not me, a watch needs to have the date.
Also its Patek 1st in house chrono movement.
5960 all the way. Dont even think twice.
Hi there,
First of all,i dont know you at all. Therefore, your knowledge, passion and approach are blind to me.In my opinion,if you are a practical person talking about value and cents and would wanted something for reading date and time, like wise retain your 5960.
But,
If you have gone a step deeper into the world of watches, talking about movement, finishes and artisan. Then i would say go for the DS for the enjoyment sake.
Just my thoughts....

I have a 5960P and have also "toyed" with the DS many many times. IMHO, another deciding factor will be whether you will wear the DS. It is not an easy watch to be worn but if you can wear it comfortably on your wrist, I would say go for the DS. The DS will give you much much more joy over the long run. Look at the manuel wind movement and play around the split second function (though you may not need it), you will find the DS is more unique and probably much more difficult to build. This is speaking from a purist perspective of course and I hope I will also own this piece some day as well (need to save up big time)
....... On the other hand, the 5960P has its own special merits as a collectable item, in particular, if you are a pate fan.

This is not apples to apples. I love Patek, but the Lange DS is a much more desirable watch. Is it as wearable? Maybe not for some. But examine one of each in your hands and play with the chrono functions, and if you are after horological appreciation you will see there is no contest.
Brand loyality to Patek is one thing. The better watch in this case is completely another.
Don't hesitate to post an ad in the Collector's market! Thank you for your understanding. Dje
