The Lange 1815 Chrono has a black dial, but depending on the lighting it can look more navy than the 5712.

But it's the 5170 and 5172 😉

But I prefer the refined design and finishing of the PP cases. The Lange cases are more or less all the same

You can add Cdv and Minerva to that group too. 😁

But here, the Patek clearly runs circles around Lange just on the basis of the dial complexity not mentioning the cases…

All three suffer from the same droopy subdials. Lange movement is a little above Patek, but certainly not by a lot. Case work on 5170 is a little simple for me. The 5172 is brilliant, not just the triple-stepped lugs, also the sides are more complex then the Lange’s and the 5170. I love the syringe hands and they’re a good size too. I find the hands on the 5170 a bit thin and short.

I looked very closely at the Lange 1815 chrono (early and current versions) but couldn't love the case nor dial.  The 5170 (breguet numerals) won easily in those areas.  I thought the 5172 dial was unnecessarily large and thought that size might not age well.  I went with the 5170R-001 for the dial, case design, and smaller size (though the opaline dial wears larger than the 39.4mm size.
