My Grail Watch - 5905R
Dear all,
Annual Calendar Flyback Chronograph
It has been 3 years since my last post to this most esteemed community of enthusiasts. My days in watch collecting seemed all but over as I sold off my collection, keeping only my two most cherished pieces - my 5712/1a and the AP Openworked 15305ST.
I deemed such a drastic action was necessary since where I plan to retire, maintaining a larger collection would have been a burdensome chore.
Before I bid all adieu, I would like to share with all, that I leave having reached my grail piece...well, sort of.
Originally, I was pining for the 5905P for the longest time. But the 5905R sang out to me more at the time and so here I am.
I'll be making a few more posts with my 3 pieces later.
So you haven't gotten rid of me just yet!

That is a beautiful watch. I’ve always wanted one but I would have to sell too many watches that I couldn’t easily replace to find one so I’ve always resisted the temptation!

I had to let go of a few near and dear pieces to my heart for this watch. I might not have done so if I wasn't preparing for my next stage in life.
Great choice
I think the blue-dial 5905R has a more lively vibe than the 5905P. Though personally I have a soft spot for blue-dial, platinum-case watches so I think it is hard to go wrong with either choice.

I have tried this watch and I can see why you would want it. The warm gold and the vivid blue dial are a fantastic combination in real life.

In consolidating my collection, i got rid of my AP RO Chronograph in rose gold, blue strap. That watch caught the light in a most “look at me” brashness and I loved the attention. While the 5905R follows a similar colour scheme, it exudes a more refined maturity that I think reflects an older version of me.
…or I’m just kidding myself. I haven’t evolved my tastes at all…
Anyways, the 5905R in some ways replaces my ROC.

The 5905 is my favorite Patek, regardless of metal!
