I am offered this beauty… i have the 5270P salmon and was looking for a 5740 but could not justify the price so the same dealer showed me this one today…i fell in love… it has minor scratches (nothing major so a patek service wil clean it)… any owner feedback? I know this does not pop up every day, so thought to check feedback from experts here… i felt it is a piece of history… not cheap though!!
A true wonder which is worth a serious consideration, and a positive decision. The 5970 already is an icon. A Classic. Go!

I am the minority. I like the 5270 more than 5970. I know the heritage, Lemania movements etc. Just like the case shape and dials better on the 5270. That being said, if you want another pcc this definitely get that neovintage patek vibe.

J appears to be even rarer than P so if it’s a full set and the price is right, it should be a no-brainer. Best, V.

As usual it is a question of personal taste, nothing is right or wrong! However since you ask our opinion...
IMHO 5970 is one of the nicest PP ever made if not THE nicest ever. As for me the size is absolutely perfect, it doesn't need any extra mm: it is perfectly balanced and proportioned as it is, I prefer the shape of its case better than the one of its successor the 5270, and to my eyes the dial looks also better. Also the Lemania based movement is absolutely great and cannot be criticised.
I know that I am biased as a 5970 lover (and owner) but not a single day I have ever regretted to own one.

I don’t profess to be an expert but I definitely am an owner. For me, the 5970 in any metal is about as perfect as a watch can be. Above all else it is exceptionally beautiful.
I bought my J even though I already had a P. I thought on one level that’s a bit crazy. Why not buy eg a 5370P blue enamel dial, which also is very beautiful and exceptional in many ways, But in the end I loved the J so much and thought it was so different from the P aesthetically that the choice was easy. Certainly no buyer’s remorse for even a moment.
Thank you! I find it pretty easy to capture the beauty of 5970, compared to some other references where the photos often don’t get it right.

I find the size and look perfect and as others have noted already an icon.
Any metal is attractive and if the price is right (all are expensive now) I would get it.

I love your 5270p salmon. But this is on another level.
I’ve tried on the 5970G once at Wynn. They were asking 180. For a flash I thought about selling all my other watches to trade. It’s really a perfect watch. If the price is right I would def consider it.

Exceptional PCC.
The 5970 for me goes down in history as one of the most important PCC’s of all time. Not the most important but seriously up there in the top 3 for a few reasons.
The 5970j is a very special version for sure.
I do wonder how and if Patek could ever better this reference.
Time will tell.

In my opinion the perfect PCC
.. or near perfect
Case design is exceptional with flared lugs, curved sides, concave bezel..
Proportion is very harmonious - 40mm diameter, lug to lug ~ 46mm, case thickness is ~ 13mm.. it actually wears close to a 38/9..
Movement is attractive, and easier to set the 5970 date than the 5270
Dial is perfectly balanced
My pick was the G for the understated look and unique hands color.. but I find the R also incredibly beautiful
