I think this watch made to celebrate the year 2000 is a little under appreciated but not unloved. Imagine the commitment from Mr Stern to develop a bespoke movement for a limited edition run with 10 days of power?!
Anyway, I love it, as much for its case shape as for the movement. The only thing I would change is the case material: if I could have got a Pt one I most certainly would have!

Indeed, a wild time for PP. The most innovative they probably had. I personally would have choosen the R for its lovely look.

5100 R
I wore a 5100 R for a quite a while. They are certainly beautiful watches. My big complaint was the winding. I actually like winding a watch. There is something about that interactivity that I like. The 5100 takes quite a while to wind-up from nothing and I feel the mechanism was just too smooth for its own good. I would turn and turn and turn to get that watch fully wound and it did not feel like I was getting anywhere.
As an example, I like the “wind” on a 3970 or a 5004. They make some sound, there is a bit of resistance. The 5100 was so smooth in winding there was no mechanical sensation at all.
I must admit though, after reading your post, I miss my 5004 !

I think your YG version is the one to own! Every combo is good--the rose gold with grey dial is awfully lovely, too. But for my money you've got the best one.

Remember those days back when.... and annual calendar.... and that timepiece is a wonderful example when Patek cared and innovated........
As for winding, I also agree about the 5100 versus the 3970er; as the crown had more resistive feel on the 3970. jmho

love it! This was when the previous Mr. Stern loved watchmaking, and it showed; the current Mr. Stern is only about increasing profits by driving out quality.

I was hinting around that in my post. When David left Stern in NYC service combined with the unqualified kid at the helm I knew it was downhill for Patek. 
Happily, we have so many truly innovative TRUE independents in the market today that PP has made themselves essentially irrelevant imho.

Very true: innovation is leadership when the business is at the top of the tree. Compare the Y2K release to the London Saatchi releases and you’ll see what I mean. No innovation and no imagination IMHO
