I have had my PP 5164 for about 3 years. A very annoying problem recently as I now have build up my collection. I generally rotate between 3 watches a week.

I would have my 5164 placed on a Wolf winder (900 turns a day). But for some reason, it will stop and move again. It’s just so weird and not right, because its doing perfectly fine when I have it on my wrist.

So I looked into it and have noticed the problem occurs when the watch is upside down, eg a winder rotates 2 min and stop a min, then start again. So a watch can be upside down during the course.

My previous cheap winder never had such problem, but it was more horizontally rather than vertically rotated.

Again, my Rolex, omega and any other watches have no issue with my wolf winder, except PP 5164.

What do you guys think? Is it my 5164, maybe due for service? Or it’s just the winder?Get a new winder, but then it’s ridiculous, I can’t have a normal winder for a Patek?!

324 SC only winds up counter clockwise. I would not do anything to the watch. Either think about a different type of winder or simply do a manual wind for 5164 everyday by about 5-10 turns.

Yah I guess the problem is my winder. Ya cuz it runs well on my wrist and keeps time well.

I checked my previous winder (a much cheaper one in fact), and it allows clockwise or counter clockerwise whereas my wolf counter is bidirectional only.

I may look for a new winder. BUT just wondering as if the problem is my winder, and I have been using it for a few months. Have I damaged my 5164 for good? Or better take it to service now? Have had for 3 years now

According to Orbits watch database, your watch needs 800 counter-clockwise turns per day to maintain power reserve. If your winder only allows bi-directional rotation, you should set it at minimum 1600 turns per day and it should work just fine.
The clockwise rotation will not wind the watch but it won't do any harm either, so nothing to worry. Hope this works.

I have a similar problem back in 2012 on my 5711 that stopped since the winder is set bi-directional. Good thing someone in this forum provided inputs to have the winder set as counterclockwise. It’s been 6 years and never had a problem. Both the 5164 and the 5711 share similar base movement.

Will look for a new winder, any suggestion?
My wolf is the basic one, bi directional only and can’t increase the turns!

Most importantly, did I damage this watch. Cuz when it stopped, it will run again after about another 30 minutes (I guess when it rotated counter clockwise).. Happened about 3 or 4 times...

it happens the same the mass spinning in both directions however it winds only in one.

and I'm very happy with it. I've never had a problem, it works perfectly and my PP too.
