It seems like the Aquanaut and the PCC both shared the "downside" for you, and I'd guess many others, of being just too big. Having recently had the 5164 on my wrist for the first time I also experienced that deflating feeling of "it's just too big for it to be right (for me)".
As a 5711 owner the watch for me is much of what I had hoped. Comfortable on the wrist and sporty without that robustness one associated with a Submariner or a Royal Oak (as two examples). And, in my horology life, an icon of purity of design.
Much of the feel, and what I believe is good about the Nautilus, is lost on the Annual Calendar and other Nautilus complications which just take the watch into AP and Hublot land for me (*just my opinion, which is influenced by my smaller wrists!). So when I saw the release information for the Nautilus Perpetual earlier this week and read that the dimensions were almost that of the 5711 it was very pleasing. Those dimensions, the metal and the complication all combine to make it the Nautilus King.
