I am looking to join the club of 5110P owners! I have tracked one down but am having a hard time determining if it is overly polished. Any insight would be a great help.
I was in a second hand dealer in Paris recently. I ask the guy if the have a 1016. He brings me a watch where the ends of the pins are sticking out and there is not one sharp edge on the entire case except the ends of the lugs that are pointed and sharp. The watch is newly polished. I make a quiet remark that I think it’s probably too polished to me. The guy looks at me, clearly and says:”with vintage you buy patina!”. What he says is right of course. Except. Polishing is not patina. That is destroying patina and even worse destroying the design and the shape. I don’t mind dings and scratches on a used watch. That is natural. But I mind the alteration of the case. And I find the distinction that a restored dial is a big NoNo but a polished case is OK curious when I think about it.
If you or someone else have more examples and pictures illustrating what to look for (or rather, avoid) when it comes to over-polishing, that would be great, and it could serve as a future reference tool.
...can’t comment on the difference to the 5110P, but it certainly looks heavily polished in comparison. Great watch by the way, you won’t regret it when you get a clean one. Happy hunting.
