Driven by rarity, but by the fact that I liked this package most. Don't worry, the car will be driven. I expect around 10,000 km per year. Hope to go to the nurburgring - nordschleife this summer to add x times 21km ☺

Decision made for new? car
As I have been asking on this forum for your advice, I think it is only fair to let you know my final decision for my new car.
I had following criteria: don't want to see it every day, if possible a coupe, not slow
, but still a bit practical (I also keep the AM) so should be possible to put 2 kids at the back.
This one has not been easy....Thought about the 4C, a car when I see it, I just have to have it. Someday, it will be in my garage. But too extreme, and only 2 seater
Was thinking about a Porsche 911, but perhaps the too obvious choise. Also limited back space
Thought about a new M3 or the previous M3 coupe with v8...
In the end, none of the above.
But This (not the actual car and not my pictures, still have to finalize everything, but decision made, also in the orange color)
Drove the car, goes as hell, fantastic cornering, a real M car as far as me is concerned. And even practical (yes BIM, even for you). As an added advantage, only 6000 have been made, so you don't see it every day.
I'll keep you posted about first months of ownership...

Yes, E 36. Still enjoying my Volvo C 70 T5 275 HP...

The E30 will always be the most iconic M of all time, did you know mister B Le Conard used to drive one ? It almost ruïned him, so expensive to keep on the road he decided to burn .. errr sell it.
The E36 is a good choice as a second classic-car .. or should i say your first classic car (P1800 is an oldtimer) but i think the E46 would be the better choice in terms of driving-pleasure and maintenance cost, the sound is just intoxicating (i once tried the Z4M with that engine).
So better hurry up and buy whatever M3 because i and Dirk (i will start to call him Dirty Dirk from now on as the bastard will humiliate my diesel with his 1M) will look down on you in your Volvo .
.How about a BMW gtg at my place, i live in the middle .. i know a few roads where we can do some drifting

He opted for 235xi M.... delivery in 10 days

Hi Dirk, congrats on your choice. IMO this is the very best you can get for the money ! I once drove a 335i Sports with more power and it was fabulous, this 1M or are you going for the M235i ? will be even better! A wet dream for every I-series owner driving a diesel ;-) LOOOOL.
Also this is one of the few turbocharged cars that really make you forget you ever wished for a normally aspirated car.
The 1M will also become some kind of collectors item in the years to come ... there is a young fellow in my neighborhood that drives an orange one, every time he passes me in my Clio i see him lurking ... true petrol heads i guess

The difference is: it is a real M car, the M235i is not. The m2 though....
You know, after a search you fall in love with the complete package, yes the new cars will always be quicker as the previous ones. 1m has 340 HP, the M2 will have around 380HP and will certainly be the better car overall. But as said, if you wait for the ultimate car, you never will buy anything, only lurk around. And if you look at the videos that the 1m in reality might have closer to 400HP and can follow an M3 CSL on the nurburgring, it explains the feeling you have. It seems quicker as the specs tell you.
It looks: I think you find it or plain ugly or you like the character it has. I like the fact that it is provocative, not too much mainstream.
And last point: yes, I think it will age well, better than the current m235i because of its character.

Yes, a true collector's car...
The problem with collector's cars is that they often only see a couple thousand kilometers of driving per annum. I hope this one is enjoyed extensively!

I wanted 4 doors and the v8, so I went with the last generation m3 sedan, which is awesome, but probably not as fun as your 1m

But I'm a huge fan of the E92 M3 and I'm sure the 1M will be great fun on the track!

Congrats, that is ...
a great choice. Back in 2011 I had the pleasure to test-drive it at the (internal) BMW test track in Leipzig, together with friends from the LOG and not to forget Walter Lange. A professional driver gave us a ride and it was just unbelieveable what he was able to do with that "beast"
Never had a chance the beast again, but drove the iDrive several times afterwards. I liked them both, but loved the beast.
Once more, I like your spirit - without paradigm about "appropriate" car´s.
