Interesting is what Paul Brac told me duriing my internship at Peugeot.
The wide track look was a communication mistake between design/construcion and was roo late to solve before the motor show. Decision was taken to correct the too wide track after but the press and public reaction was so overwhelming that this inovation was kept for production.
I was looking for a good 280 sl but i was too slow to buy it, the prices skyrocketed in the range of other italian and german desireable sportscars.

The market for beautiful vintage cars gets more and more crazy, unfortunately.

Some years ago I was very close to buy this one:



1977, one owner, less than 70.000 kilometer ... and for a bargain, compared to the prices today :-(

Restoration and get offered for a lot of money but when you look in the structure it is "lightweight"

The best is to stay away from restored cars and prefer original ones no that fresh because you see the truth.

The R107 ( beautiful green one you have shot) is stil afordable compared to the W113 (Pagoda) but it is i think the last year.

It got so fashionable to have a classic ( and after the lost in trust in banks or shares)seen as n investment ) but i blieve that a lot will lose interest when they realise that they lose confort, safety, performances...nd that you sometimes have to get the hands dirty.

... and the 190/300 sl are true beauties my friend. I know you love Mercs all the way and so have i a lot of affection for these cars as my grandfather drove (i did also) a W123 230 E.

I loved the idea of that car, when it was introduced. I heard there is one on display in the Porsche Museum - for a good reason.
