Saw this one this after noon. The only thing I know ; it's a Bentley.

Picture quality is bad, took them with my mobile phone. The car was green and HUGE, really HUGE.

Is this a very expenise original one of a kind piece and are we talking about a 500.000 or 1.500.000 euro, I have no idea.

Or is it some kind of replica ? It really looked like new ... like us watch enthusianst would say LNIB

Blue Train Special reside in the US?

I saw one a few years ago at the Concours Het Loo. The original coupé, not the actual car that raced the Blue Train, apparently resides in the US along with the original car that DID race the train and won. The reg. of the original car is GJ 3811, I doubt that it has been changed.

The car depicted here was in fact not the actual car popularly known as the "Blue Train Special". Another Speed Six (much more sedate looking) was the actual car from the famous race. Upon learning this fact, the owner of the car depicted here purchased the "actual" Blue Train automobile and they now share the same garage space in Seattle, USA.

And the actual car that raced the Blue Train.

Coincidentally something explored during a conversation after cricket last Thursday. ;-)

You know, the sport where they actually use the feet to kick a ball (round).

A bit of trivia on the Flying Spur. Strictly speaking was not a Bentley/RR name, coachbuilder HJ Mulliner first applied it to the 4 door version of the S3 Continental (which was based on the Silver Cloud 3).

It was actually a tribute to Claude Johnstone, the marketing man instrumental in creating the (deserved or not) enduring cachet of these cars. Claude was known as 'the hyphen in Rolls-Royce".  The Johnstone family coat of arms features a riding spur with wings. Hence the name.

The H.J. Mulliner design number 7443 and derivatives was used for all three series of the S-Type Continental and the Silver Cloud under the name of "Flying Spur".

There is even a James Young design, nr. SVC100 which is rather similar, which is sometimes referred to as "Flying Spur".

H.J. Mulliner and Mulliner Park Ward even built a four door convertible version of what can clearly be recognised as a Flying Spur on RR SCII chassis.

The Johnston link I was not aware of.

Air freighted to the Netherlands for the concours at Paleis Het Loo (Netherlands, where this shot was taken), known as the Blue Train Special. Gurney Nutting Speed Six. One-off, unique automobile. resides in the US (Seattle).
