The only time I drove a Lotus was in the early 80's when I took a test drive of one I was considering buying, whilst on said test drive a front wheel fell off when going round a corner thankfully it wasn't at speed. No I didn't end up buying it after that.

It was an Esprit with a Ford SHO (Yamaha) engine stuffed in back.
The car crapped out and we walked about 2 miles back to the store... salesman asked if that would put me off buying it.
