But the Ferrari had 380 hp for the same weight (I think).

The sound was something !
I remember driving the Subaru while my friend followed in the f355.
At the lights I pulled away faster than he did, so at full throttle already doing 100 mph he came flying past me at 130 mph in full acceleration .... my window was slightly opened so I could hear the howl of that glorious V8. I think it revved up to 8500 rpm if I'm not wrong.

Every journey was pure joy and I have many memories of early morning and late night drives that are making me smile as I am typing this reply 😉🏁

Another glorious sounding machine my friend had during the same period was his 916 SPS with the 50 mm Termignoni's.
Hearing that bike coming from a distance and passing you was simply phenomenal. I remember a night ride with his SPS and me on my Bimota, the 600 Yamaha engine had quite some changes: Carbon Arrow, 4 KNN filters, purpose build Dynojet kit and that sound was out of this world. I just wish where that bike is right now, I should have never sold it honestly. As we came thundering down the road we encountered a Police trap, but the guy with the glowing stick signed we had to quickly pass through as they were only interested in stopping cars. So we lit it up going completely flat out, I think we passed those guy going over 200 kph. The following minutes at full throttle we saw several blue flashing lights all around, that was actually funny. A friend living several miles away heard the whole 'ordeal' ... a thundering 996cc V-Twin, a 600 4-pot and loads of police-sirenes. Another great 90ies night accomplished I should say.

It was indeed.
We don't even have that now ... although my friend now has 3 cars, a first generation Nissan Micra, a standard 1999 Subaru WRX and a Hyundai i30N.

I do remember the engine needed to go out for some issues after a year or so.
Very nice, and you are lucky enough to have the "nice" steering wheel, as most of them are wide and fat due to the horrendous airbag ! Enjoy the 5 valves / cylinder ! ;-)
Agreed on the steering wheel. Piece of Art, at that moment, versus those we nowadays have.
