I probably wouldn't call it ugly, but I definitely will say it's not an especially good looking vehicle at all. But this is the future! All cars will soon be amorphic and fish shaped. Look at the new Mercedes EQS, that's a fairly unattractive looking car! Also, as headlights go more towards laser lights, headlights will get increasingly smaller. So soon all cars will have squinty front lights and fish-like fronts!

I agree it functions fine yet personally will definitely prefer Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Toyota-Lexus electric .

But these things are often a compromise. The designers wanting their design. Engineers wanting their technical requirements. And in the end, coefficient of drag must be met - a hard requirement that nobody could compromise on. Thus, the designers had to compromise. I'm sure a lot of thought went into it. Tesla's Model S is certainly a reasonably attractive car!

Perhaps I should say it is electric thus it can be different.

Things that are different need to be a gradual transition. Function and art need to go hand in hand, and be in balance. So all that being said, we probably need nicer looking electric cars. BMW's new i4 and iX look "normal" enough, although some people aren't fond of the new grill.

Perhaps car designer today is stretching their design language evolution to explore and build the younger generation taste.

Although when you tell people that the front of this Mercedes is designed to resemble the front of the G-Wagon Jeep... Then the Maserati idea quickly fades.

It does indeed look very shocking.  But if you come from USA, there are already cars that look like that.  The Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger have that look.  This look harkens back to the 1960s where cars had this upfront design.  The Chris Bangle era of BMWs was shocking to many.  His 2002 Model Year BMW 7 series looked more like an executive spaceship than any car that had been on the road.  The interior was also too computer-heavy, as the car switched to a central computer concept.  A concept that was first pioneered by BMW and Harman International - a Korean company that owns Harman Kardon and a lot of other car stereo brands, who decided they wanted to get into the car computer and infotainment business and not just deal with the car audio business.  Back to the exterior; the super-high trunk lid was a new way of doing rear box aerodynamics.  It was also a huge radical departure from the original BMW 7 series that was a simple and athletic creature that took many proportions from Jaguar.  But if we look at the Chris design today, it's actually very pleasing and modern.

Long tail streamlines the car and reduces drag. High trunk lid increases downforce (it's basically like a wing) and gives you more storage room in the trunk, without increasing drag significantly. You'll also sometimes see a small lip spoiler pressed into the metal of the trunk lid like a "gurney flap" spoiler for more downforce. So since the 2002 BMW 7 series and the 2003 Maybach cars, the first cars with this higher trunk lid concept, car companies ever since have been transitioning to higher trunk lids. They hide these proportions by changing the placement of the tail lights. Another note about taillights; notice Mini Coopers - their taillights are HUGE! This is so that way the rest of the car looks small. I'm saying too much, as I'm not a published expert in the car industry. That's Cazalea's department. But I have worked in the automotive industry, so I know a tiny little bit.

Electric cars are SUPER heavy! Living in Singapore, it's less of an issue for you. But in USA or in Europe, where people drive faster, the significantly higher weight of an electric SUV or electric pick-up truck will mean that normal people in normal cars will be at a huge disadvantage. Take for instance, the Hummer EV in USA. That thing weighs around 11,000 pounds or 5,000 kg when loaded with passengers and cargo! That's HUGE! A typical SUV would weigh around 6000-7000 pounds or around 3000 kg. This sudden and huge increase in weight means drivers of lighter cars that are only just a few years old are at a tremendous disadvantage if they get into an accident with a large EV vehicle on the highway! Weights of cars have gone up about 20% in the past 20 years. A Model Year 2000 Mercedes E Class was probably around 3500 pounds or 1.7 tonnes. Today, a 2020 Mercedes E Class is probably around 4100 pounds or around 1.9 tonnes. That's a gradual change over a long time. The car isn't at a major disadvantage over the useful life of the car. And 20 years is a very long lifespan for a car. Let's say this year you buy a normal weight car, and in two years, electric pick up trucks and SUVs start selling like hot cakes. In just a few years you'll be at a severe disadvantage while your vehicle is still relatively "new." I'd say the car companies are a bit irresponsible for making the Hummer EV THAT heavy. But what can you do? If you can't beat them... Join them... I might buy a bigger car one day just to feel a bit safer!

And even I have to say it is the most unattractive and fairly uninteresting car I've ever owned! The Model Y is even more unattractive! But as unattractive as my Tesla Model 3 is, I do have to say, it drives shockingly quite well! Double wishbone front suspension! Very good handling. Snappy steering response. Quick acceleration. Remarkable efficiency! I can't say I don't recommend it!

...although I must say that Teslas are not attractive cars imho...

But apparently a curved piece of plastic and three giant electric motors can spank a Lambo (or any other ice) down a drag strip and leave it in the fetal position…who’d a thunk it🧐🤨🙄

Perhaps it’s because the Porsche purists find it hard to accept still.

Nonetheless IMHO Taycan is arguably the best electric for now.

...in that price range, I'd go for either the Taycan or the Audi GT E-tron. I've only seen two of the Audis on the road and they are beautiful...
