It is always hard to capture in photos.  The matt and glossy dials are pretty easy to capture but this has a little more grainy feel to the black.  Almost like orange peel texture in a more micro sense.  I guess this is pretty common with the early materials used on these dials.

There is one thing we can all agree on was that it was an 18mm rather than what we all sport 20mm.  But the color combo is still up in the air.  The strap was probably aged so the colors were not as bright as on a new strap.

The other point is it from the "Bond" family of watches but at least the association is a little more than with Steve McQueen and the 1655.  He most certainly had some 5513 / 5513 subs but.. I will still accept the association even on the McQueen.

You're right on many points:

James Bond's strap was more around 18 ( I think 18 mm ) than 20 mm, for sure.

About the colors, yours is indentical than the one he sported.

I have a pic in the bloody hell other mongrel computer which doesn't want to work...

As for SMQ, his watch was certainly NOT a 1655, that is an urban legend.

He sported, in reality, a 5512, which was, if I remember well, recently auctionned.

I guess that means big arrow (hand) which sounds perfect.

I guess all the hype has come from the Italian side with the promotion.  It seem that the release of a McQueen film  "The Get Away" was happening around the same time as the 1655 was struggling to find its rightful place and some how an association was made in the early 70's maybe arond 1972-1973 which seem logical.

But yes Urban legend as no pictures have been seen with the watch on his wrist.

A JLC Memovox in gold, but if someone finds me a pic of him wearing a 1655, it will be a scoop.



We don't have to blame the italians, they perpetuated the passion on mechanical watches during the reign of Quartz watches.

They bring sooo many things "design and flare"  but they make it impossible to find affordable Rolex PN as they have the biggest appetite in the world for them.

But there was a commercial aspect back then too.  They could buy Rolex in the US for 50% of the European prices but then again so could you by swatches.  But they made a market bringing the watches over but the outcome I guess is good we still have a very vibrant market all these years later and the passion is as strong today as it was back then.
