A beautiful dial, but even more beautiful movement. The caliber L944.1 carries a completely hand-engraved 3/4 plate. The floral pattern takes its inspiration from the Meissen Porcelain’s Strew Roses created in 1815. This reference was produced as a limited edition of 125 pieces – 50 in platinum and 75 in pink gold for Wempe. Enjoy!
The Sidestep was made for Wempe c.2003-4. 50 in PT (222.049) and 75 in RG (222.048). This was back in the day when Lange would make bespoke movements for dealers: The Sidestep movement was never used in any other Lange watch (Lange also did this with the Grosse Langematik Gangreserve for Wempe and the Kalenderwoche for Huber). The Sidestep was not a popular model and was often available preowned at a discount (the movement was lauded but the dial got a lukewarm reception). You don't see them much these days, though.
... and thought you were replying to my comment about the vintage Longines watch!! Then, when I clicked on it, it took me here! Could've been either one.
. . . yeah, the vintage Longines is sweet, but the Lange literally defines 'elegance'. Not that I'm actively searching for one, but should an opportunity arise for a rose gold sidestep, I'd be game!
Enjoy yours, while mine is hidden in the bank vault. The rose gold case with black dial is a very appealing combination, the blued second hand against the silver subdial is the cherry on the cake. Not to forget the unique floral engraving.
