Breguet

Its a quiet Saturday, so I thought I'd post some pictures of a watch you may not have seen very often, the Classique 5197.

I got it a couple of years ago. I wanted a watch with some "olde worlde charm" and eventually decided on this one.

Yellow gold, 36mm diameter. Thin but not ultrathin. Not a scratch-magnet.

Silvered gold dial, hand engraved on a rose engine.

Love that guilloche.

Lever, escape wheel and balance in silicon.

A simple yet intricate and detailed watch.

Very light and easy to wear. Its easy to forget you are wearing it.

Love those blued steel hands.

The brand's history is very enticing. I am now glad to be part of it although I sincerely doubt that Breguet will use me in their advertising. Taking all these photos makes me realise that I need to wear it more often than I do.

I love the dial on your watch.  It's serious, but with a touch of whimsy also.  Thanks for sharing all the lovely pictures with us.  This is the first time I've seen anyone turn their photos into little paintings with frames, as you've done in your post.

One of the side effects of posting pictures on this forum is actively using my camera more.

The other is getting to try all these photographic and presentation programs on my computer (imac) which I've never needed to use before. Its a bit of fun and a mini adventure trying all these things out.

I really like this watch and am thinking of purchasing this watch.  Now that you have owned this watch for a while, can you tell me what you like mostly about the watch?  What do you think of the silicon?  How is it for daily wear?  Any more information you like to add please email me [Email address suppressed for privacy].  I will be making a long trip to an authorized dealer in the next two weeks to take a look at it, just to make sure of the size and fit.

I truly like this piece and it would have been on my wish list, if it hadn't been for two issues: a)Having never seen it in the flesh, I wonder if 35,5mm would be too small for my wrist and b) I can't explain why MSRP is so much higher than any other simple (uncomplicated) Breguet, is there something special or unique about the movement?

In any case, it's a beauty! Really glad you posted these!

The best thing is to try one on and see how it looks.

Regarding the MSRP, I didn't know that but that is often the case with things I want. Perhaps it is to do with the silicon material and the finishing.

Wasn't this the first Breguet to come with silicon spring, balance wheel and escape wheel (what I recall reading anyway)?  If so, that may go to explaining the higher pricing.  It would be interesting to see how this goes in terms of day to day and long term performance.

The things that strike me are the beautiful proportions of the case (and of course the trade-mark cold-rolled fluted sides) and the beautiful second hand. Very elegant and lovely watch, appropriately presented.

I really enjoyed looking at your beautiful watch.  What made the watch really stand out was your layout.  The pictures caputred the essance of Breguet, the chess board (sophication), and the articles tied in with the watch (history and influentional owners of Breguet time pices).

I do not own a Breguet yet, but have been looking to purchase one for sometime now.  I am looking at the 5907 manual, I like the traditional look.  I really like the look of your 5197 it is really beautiful.  Can you provide me with some feedback on your expertise to help me on my decision.  I am looking for something to have for a long time and would very much appreciate you assistance and feedback.  You can email me at [Email address suppressed for privacy].
