Love the Type XX.
The other option instead of buying a modern Type XX is to go for the original Type XX produced between 1954 & 1970s. There are 2 benefits :
1. Vintage size=about 38mm
2. If you are lucky, you can hopefully still find them around a smiliar price with the modern one you mentioned.

There are 2 kinds of vintage during this period:
1. Military - made for French Air Force (Armee de L'air), French Navy (Marine Nationale) & Flight Test Centre (CEV). They are a bit more expensive obviously.
2. Civilian - These are cheaper, comes in 2 or 3 subdials.
