📖 About This Reference

The PAM192 represents Panerai's application of tantalum case construction to the Luminor Chrono series. This reference distinguishes itself through the use of an uncommon precious metal case material within the chronograph-equipped Luminor lineup. The 44mm case is constructed from tantalum and houses a chronograph movement. The watch features a black dial that provides contrast against the grey-toned tantalum case material. The case follows the Luminor architecture with its characteristic crown protection system. This reference appeals to collectors seeking alternative precious metal options beyond traditional gold or platinum offerings. The tantalum construction provides a distinctive material choice within Panerai's chronograph collection, offering collectors access to one of the less commonly utilized precious metals in contemporary watchmaking. The PAM192 serves collectors interested in both the functional complications and uncommon case materials within the Luminor range.

Many moons ago, a 172
Wish I held on to this PAM. The tantalum color was gorgeous. Despite this wonderful case material, the watch was not as heavy as advertised. Like with almost all PAMs, I would prefer a solid caseback. But it was a very cool release at the time, and no doubt got a few hearts pumping.

Auction Treasures
With Basel and SIHH behind us and the 2016 novelties not yet ready for delivery, June, July and August are typically the 'slow' months for the horological enthusiasts. Not to worry - the auction houses such as Christies, Sotheby, Philips and Antiquorum came to the rescue with their 'Spring' auctions

Do you guys think Panerai will make more Tantalum watches such as the PAM172?
The PAM172, a special edition from 2003, was Panerai's first tantalum watch. Asi posted a fabulous picture of the PAM172 a while back ago here (see below pic). You can see the unique grey color of the tantalum case. And the blue hands contrasts beautifully with the tantalum case! PAM172 photo credit

Patience finally paid off....
Having acquired and parted with over a dozen or so Panerais, I have come to the conclusion that a 42mm watch will best fit my rather small wrist, with perhaps one exception - the PAM 192, which is 44 mm in diameter. Boy, how I love the black buffalo strap which gave the watch a very macho feel (see
