I've seen a black ref 2179 online . . .
. . . with steel leaf hands. To the best of my knowledge, the US military order spanned production runs /2 thru /6 . I've never seen any 2179 marked /1 . But I have seen a handful of 2179 casebacks without a slash. The black 2179, as well as a few others ...
