The Prototypes have a very specific serial number range
and sometimes various case / movement / dial / hands features that needed to be tested.
Some had a plastic locknut, some alredy the one in steel, some had an early cal. 1000 movement, some a cal. 1001 with thermal compensation and some the cal. 1002 that was retained for production.
For instance, is not clear if the black dial really existed and if it was an early color test, or if some blue dials simply turned to black with time.
Some of these prototypes already had all the features of production watches, but needed to be tested intensively in extreme conditions.
But there is still a lot to discover and understand...

You do not need any weighted belt to dive with these on your wrist. Cool case shape! I am currently looking at their baby brother, the SHOM, which also boasts a funky case
Please be cautious as many are put-togethers . . .
. . . from authentic parts. Omega released several cases and dials to third party vendors which induced a proliferation of SHOMs in as-new condition. An extract would literally be worth its weight in gold . . .

I am aware of this problem. It looks like 90% are put-togethers. This is ok with me if given that I am planning to use it for sailing and active duties, provided the price is right
Mine all have extracts from the archives but you only supply mouvement serial.
They can confirm from the mouvement that it was indeed born in a Ploprof and when and where it was sold. But you can’t confirm the dial it was born with just the era but that usually aligns with the dials. Service case also has different markings inside. ...

I have been on the hunt for a nice one for a while, the original is surprisingly comfortable compared to the 1200 reissue. Do you have the proto marking on the caseback?

was issued to an independant swiss professionnal diver and has a number on the back. The other one has no number.
