The Prototypes have a very specific serial number range
and sometimes various case / movement / dial / hands features that needed to be tested.
Some had a plastic locknut, some alredy the one in steel, some had an early cal. 1000 movement, some a cal. 1001 with thermal compensation and some the cal. 1002 that was retained for production.
For instance, is not clear if the black dial really existed and if it was an early color test, or if some blue dials simply turned to black with time.
Some of these prototypes already had all the features of production watches, but needed to be tested intensively in extreme conditions.

But there is still a lot to discover and understand...
