Going on 16 years this watch. Never serviced. I had it checked twice after its 7th year and the center said it was still ok. After cycling through many watches, I think we kinda know if our pieces are running unacceptably late but this one always kept good chronometer time.
It's a very reliable piece.
Switch it on a black isofrane strap and the bezel just pops.
The case has a very elegant profile, thinner by about a millimeter compared to the Rolex SubC at 11.8mm.
The lume is quite generous and shines like a torch.
Probable downsides..
1) You'd have better grip with the bezel on a sub or even a Seiko. Those scalloped edges while nice can be a bit slippery.
2) This piece has already gone up in value easily over 50% from the time that I got it. We all have different viewpoints on beater value. I think beater, I think of my Seiko SKX.
Overall, I think it is the best wave dial version of the SMP300 regardless of new tech found on the recent incarnation. It's not too in your face and gives a nice subtle texture to the dial. I'm not a big fan of co-axials as well even though I have one watch that has it as servicing will have to go through the center. It's just easier to have an ETA serviced for half the cost assuming you have a reliable watchmaker.
Hope this helps.
Best, Echi
