Thank you for your eloquent response.
I am definitely leaning in your direction. Taken on its own, the SS GM with Blue dial on bracelet is a wonderful watch - modern matte look, sweet 39 mm size, dressy and sporty, fine movement, fair price point.
I don't think it matters to me that it has a date, that it has baton hands instead of dauphine hands, or that the hands extend beyond the edges of the pie pan......... why dont these things bother me? Because the GM looks just great just the way it is!
I'm still anxious to hear from purists about other sporty/dressy watches that I could consider at the SS GM price point.

Nilo - Thanks for your note. Plat version is lovely. But I'm not in that price range. ;/ Date with blue dial not a negative at all for me - in fact, I like a date function. I see the Globemaster as a dressy sport watch. I'd like to hear what other watches...
What about the Seamaster 300m ...
I just love this watch and is not as boring (and common) as the Rolex Sub. This one is Titanium cased (that Omega believes is a precious metal, based on the price) but there's a SS version. Cheers, Nilo ...

Thanks, Nilo. Seamaster is a great watch - love it. but I don't see it as dressy as Globemaster. I'm wondering what watches out there (of any brand) compete with the Globemaster SS at its price point for a dressy sport watch.......anything come to mind???...

George - thanks for the Breitling suggestions. Both are awesome. Really sweet watches. But 42 and 44 mm are too big for my wrist. The GM at 39 is about as big as I can comfortably go. Still looking for dressy sport watch options to consider as alternative...
Had one and...
I was silly to let it go. Is no longer on the IWC catalog. The reason to part from it was the lack of straps. I don't like metal bracelets. Cheers, Nilo

Have you tried the non-limited Railmaster yet?
I find it similarly dressy as the Globemaster but it has no date. And it is not based on direct historical precedent, either...

Anyone have thoughts about the Rolex Explorer I, in comparison to the SS GM on bracelet? RE I is slightly more expensive......but interested in hearing thoughts of purists on comparison to GM. Thanks!

If you love the globemaster, great. To me, it is a bit soulless and, as you noted others saying, the elements don't come together well. A great movement with decent design elements adding up to a somehow not great watch is the tale of modern Omega for me ...
