Decision Made!!

Thanks for your thoughts, Spangles!

They motivated me to make my decision.

The Explorer is a beautiful piece.

But in thinking about it, it strikes me that Rolex was cool in the 50's and 60's.

It was selected independently by men with athletic stylishness (Paul Newman, Sean Connery) and a spirit of rugged adventure (Sir Edmund Hillary).

Today, however Rolex feels to me like just the safe choice.  Dont get me wrong - great watch, fine quality.  But it's such a standard choice, it is the watch that feels soulless to me.

On the other hand, I love the GM's fluted bezel (understated), its blue dial, it's matte finishes - it's a modern piece - cool and confident without shouting.  I like its soul.

Bonuses - great movement, and great price point (can get the GM plus a sweet little Nomos Campus with California dial for the price of the Explorer).

I know that resale on the Explorer is far better than the GM, esp since the GM line took a strange direction with that peculiar annual calendar, but I gotta buy what speaks to me.

I'm ordering the blue dial SS GM on bracelet tomorrow.

Thanks to all who wrote to help me decide!!!

Best, Gary
