A fellow WPS purist asked me how the Moonshine stacks up to a comparable Daytona in color, quality, extra so I decided to take some photos and let others decides for themselves...
I know this is the Omega section so se might be biased so I will post in the Rolex section as well so have feedback from both sides go be fair ππ€ͺ. As a caveat I will say I am a Daytona AND Speedmaster fan but I prefer the Moonshine as I find it more special. It is my favorite modern Speedmaster.
To make it more fair, I put the Moonshine up against probably the most coveted YG Daytona at the moment (John Meyer) so we could have an apples to apples comparison of 2 YG flagship models.
For me, there is NO comparison. I would take the Moonshine without hesitation in terms of quality, details, historical significance, robustness, etc...
Rolex is known for their durability and toughness but with the caliber 3861, Omega beats Rolex at their own game.
The caliber 3861 is technically superior if we look at the specs and numbers:
* Antimagnetic to 15000 gauss minimum
* Resistant to 5000 G forces (YES 5000 G, only 3 other watches can make that claim < 2 Richard Mille watches and the JLC EL2 >. The 2 RMs cost 20X more while the EL2 cost 8X more. Makes the caliber 3861 VERY compelling indeed.
* METAS chronometer certified
* 8 - 10 year expected service intervals
Where Rolex wins out is water resistance and longer power reserve but I am not swimming with my Speedmaster nor Daytona so for me water resistance has zero importance since I could wear a dedicated dive watch if needed. I also personally prefer a manual wind chronograph so winding it daily is part of the experience for me, hence a longer power reserve has little importance for me as well.
You can look and the photos and choose for yourself ππ.
