Prefer the Apollo 8 a lot more

Jul 28, 2020,12:31 PM

Hi all,
Whilst its nice to see Omega trying fresh new things this whole watch makes very little sense to me its not a race car or space connection that both have links with or to a Speedmaster but a Yachting connection so water and a perfect fit for a Seamaster wouldn't most agree?
Also using the laser ablating on the dial and movement to mimic Carbon Fibre is just plain stupid why not use actual Carbon fibre which would be so much better and authentic I just can't see the point or reason to do that what a waste of an opportunity to really do something creative.
Also for me I find this version to have a bit too much and overpowering use of Red on its dial and especially on the counters I much prefer the Apollo 8 that I have with its much more subtle use of the Yellow on its dial and counters.
I wouldn't swap my Apollo 8 for this version for any reason I can think of or consider buying this over an Apollo 8 if I had neither maybe if you love red or Alinghi this could be the right Dark Side of the Moon for you.
Marc

Speedmaster Alinghi...

To celebrate the sailing partnership between OMEGA and ALINGHI, the legendary Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon has been given this truly innovative design. The 44.25 mm model is crafted in black ceramic, with an ALINGHI logo in red varnish on the stop/st...

Interesting point of view ...

Thanks Tony !

I really feel that...

It should have been a Seamaster.

Yes but ...

Team Alinghi have a red logo πŸ€”

Attractive watch...

But having some experience with sailboat racing, I see this as something you'd wear to the party afterwards, not on the boat. At least I'd be reluctant on a watch with minimal water resistance to exercise those pushers in such a wet environment, not to me...

Thanks for your comments Kent ....

Valid points.

Not every Omega fits my taste

Known here as an Omega loving watch enthusiast, not every Omega gives me goose bumps. To much carbon, carbon look, much black is so dark. I like light, gold, silver, platina, rose gold, titanium, aluminium, stainless steel, brushed, polished and shiny.

I take your point but ...

The link with carbon is the construction of the boat.

This one was more discreet

The watch itself is all forged Carbon. [nt]

Which means all! [nt]

This one even more...

You have a point. [nt]

the best Alinghi

this is really the best Alinghi Special Edition of all, regardless of the manufacture

+1. [nt]

+1 completely agree. If they would have made a Seamaster Chrono with the same colorway but a better and more coherent link to Alinghi I might of thought about adding it to the collection...

here, now idea what happened or who thought about it. Just odes not make logical sense in the history of the Speedmaster πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Not really moon landing but DSOTM ....Moon does play the tides. [nt]

Though Seamaster wud have made more sense

I am a fan of Omega and a bigger fan of the Speedmaster BUT I have to say, I just don't see the link between Alinghi and the Speedmaster...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : July 28th, 2020-12:29
now if they made a Seamaster Chrono with the Alinghi link, then that would have been more appropriate. I think this tarnishes the Apollo 8 a bit in uniqueness as it was the first and only one of its kind up until now. I still prefer the Apollo 8 colorway ...

Can someone, someone....please explain to me why....

this is not a limited edition? Like the America's Cup Planet Ocean, it should be limited I only buy limited editions, wink wink... I have to say Red hints on Black looks good, not to say the logo or what, just the color combination is nice.

Yes, I think at some point there will be a collaboration with H :) or :(

So far my favorite is my Porsche Club of America Speedmaster. ...

The red/black combo is nice, but 44.5mm not so much...

A little more water resistance would also help.

Another strange thing about this version.

Since my last post I looked it up on Omega's website and was surprised to find that this comes in a less fancy box then the Apollo 8 or other Dark Side of the Moon watches and comes in a PloProf type box. Now the biggest shock for me is that this version ...
