 By: Robert : September 19th, 2021-00:18
hello. I hope anybody can help me with this. my father just passed me a vintage constellation but i feel something is not right about the dial and the caseback. i attach pictures of the dial and the caseback. cheers ...

Knowing full well that a little bit of knowledge is dangerous...

but my "little bit of knowledge" says neither the dial nor the case back is original Omega :-(

Hi Miki. thank you for taking time to look into it.

I haven't got time to open the caseback to confirm. but they don't seem right. maybe they're original but completely remake..and bad one too.

Please don't incur any expense . . .

. . . as it won't be worth the effort. 😔

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Robert. Perhaps this experience . . .

. . . will lead you to search for an authentic Constellation Calendar. Cordially, Art ...

At best it is a poorly done re-dial and 3rd party case back...

At worst, the watch is fake.

You would be surprised...

But in the most likely case, it will have an Omega movement with an aftermarket case back and hands with a re-finished dial. This would often happen when a watch was damaged and the owner of the watch took it to a local shop to be fixed. Watches like this...

Another grandfather’s Omega

Hi, The watch was serviced by Omega in Switzerland after sitting in a drawer at my parents' house for decades. Omega replaced the hands, crown and perspex, along with many parts of the movement. All old parts were returned.

I could tell the hands were Omega service replacements. If you're looking to return . . .

. . . your Connie to heirloom condition, it's likely the original hands and crown can be re-fitted. Best to leave the new crystal in place, though. Best, Art
