Diver's watches exsisted already...before...Panerai/Rolex. All Panerai did was to find a..better..solution for the water resistence (the first diving watches flooded..abitually) and render them readible in the dark (which Panerai resolved by useing Radiomir, that was already in use on other products Panerai supplied to the Royal Italian Navy). What the modern management has done, is to dilute the military content..some...by producing models that had very little to do with diving and military (too many to mention). The 339 it's an interesting case. It is...rumored...that Richemont did NOT have the right to issued a Marina Militare model, since the official supplier was, a the time, Lockman. Pictures of the Gamma Groups are consistentily utilised in advertising watches that have NOTHING to do with the legendary diving models of times gone bye Having said that, I continue to be a die-hard Paneraista that believes some of the watches produced by the..maison..are well worth the admiration
