Panerai PAM 995 and 997: 2 of the current Panerai which intrigue me the most.

May 17, 2020,09:17 AM

I would never think that one day, I would consider a green dial.

I am not saying that I will get it or them, but they make me think.

The PAM 995 has a nice looking micro rotor movement, and a 45 mm case.

The PAM 997 is a totally different beast with its 48 mm ceramic case, and the well known P 3000 movement.

Now, I am not sure... Why? 45 mm case: Good or bad?

48 mm: Isn't that a bit too big, and will I be seduced by the ceramic case?

And what about the green dial? Will I get rid of it?

I really have to see them in the metal... Yes.

What do you think?

The 995 is probably the best dresser with lots of DNA

I don’t think u will get bored of the green dial. It just great. Doomed glas , gold hands, white text , second , thin case. More interesting than the 997. 997 is still wearable . Feels like a 47... ...

I don't know, I likes me some green dial...

as in today's wear: I think the green dial works better against the steel and with the simple layout of the 995, than on the 997 or 998, but that's just me. ...

I see! [nt]

And the P.4000 with the micro-rotor is pretty cool, too! [nt]

Also just noticed the gilded hands on the 995, which seem to work particularly well against the green (as opposed to the black on the 997).

I really like these green dials.

The 45mm would be probably the maximum that I could wear with grace and dignity.

My favorite is still the 911.

Still kicking myself for passing it.

Need to pay above retail in used market now. Don’t wanna do that. 🤣

Really??? [nt]

Ya. I just prefer a crown guard and

Smaller size.

Due to the doomed glas the 995 looks a it smaller and more dynamic. The 911 has a rather flat glas 😉😉😉

The 995 is thinner due to the movement. So it’s Perfect if u want a awesome looking , unique and wearable Pam.

For me the 995 is the more interesting panerai.

 By: Ahoi : May 17th, 2020-11:25
The 911 is just a 312 with a green dial isn’t it? The 995 has much more to give as stated above.

I have neither 911 nor 995; but I have heavily considered both...

 By: darrony : May 18th, 2020-00:39
911 has the “benefit” (my choice) of an un marked dial of 8 day manual movement, not like 312. 995 has nice clean dial absent of “automatic” 3 day. 995 has dome sapphire vs plexi; so that is nice plus (for me). And as mentioned it wears thinner due to the...

For what is worth I consider as well the 995 a beauty, ticking all the right boxes, my first PAM, I tried also the 997 way too big... so pulled the trigger on the “little” bro... Below some pics... Ciao Luca ...

I actually like the...

green they have used for the dials. I believe the..dimensional..choices are pretty clear. The 45mm for the "tourists", the 48mm for the die-hard-gung-ho Panerista

Certamente! [nt]

it's none other than a no-nonsense, no-compromise Panerai. No happy-hour with this one

Be my guest :-) [nt]

995 in good light is a sight to behold😍

And agree that 45mm is just right! ...

 By: thegrailwatch : May 17th, 2020-12:32
Have no idea why pics showed up sideways... sorry!

That green is just right, and with those hands on the 995 I think it’s a great combo.

I’m not sure if the ceramic takes away too much from the green of the dial. The steel case let’s it shine more.

Ah this 995.. something special about it..

 By: Echi : May 17th, 2020-19:53
If they ever needed to effectively yet quietly steer away from the "historical baggage" of any brand, this would be the way to do it. Put in an auto on what should be a manual BUT make it so that the die hard can stop and rethink his position.. plop in a ...

Good point re thickness / case ratio..

 By: Echi : May 17th, 2020-23:42
It spreads out well over a 47mm case which makes them quite wearable and makes it look flatter.

What are you thinking about ?

 By: Ahoi : May 17th, 2020-23:48
To me it’s perfects. The add on is really that doom glas which just underlines a balanced look. A micro rotor in a 47case would be interesting to see.

Yes I can.

 By: Ahoi : May 18th, 2020-00:00
It’s way slimmer due to the micro rotor. It’s quite handsome. Due to the doom glas the dials looks a bit smaller. Maybe even smaller or similar to a dial in a 44mm case. Here a pictures of a 572. Same case and movement ...

I agree especially on your last point.

Best looking green watch out there

Three iPhone shots from today...

The green was much better than I expected. It actually fits and sits on my wrist better than these photos would show. I like it and I'm not a fan of green watches. I like it a lot. My wife likes it, too. This is not a healthy thing! Kent ...

Thanks, Kent. [nt]
