Even if in their case it's mostly about design, they are in my opinion the most successful brand in that space.
Now when it comes to Panerai and I say that as someone who likes the brand, they unfortunately have a long track record of releasing stuff that is not ready for prime time. Composite cases peeling off, BMG lugs cracking, the list goes on. I get the impression they got carried away under previous leadership and thought they could just jack prices and fool customers. As far as I'm concerned, steel and titanium work great for the intended use, eventually ceramic or a good old DLC coat, the rest I'm not really a fan of, for me long term durability trounces everything else and I don't mind scratches, if anything it's stories to tell and I surely don't want to pay extra for half baked materials. That being said, the new 5218 is a homerun, it is no surprise that several members got one.
