More Minerva!

A special thanks to SingaporeMarc for introducing me to this gem. Minerva Pythagorean Grande 38mm Caliber 48. This is such a wonderful piece. Neo-vintage love as introduced by the king of neo-vintage SingaporeMarc. My friend - a brilliant photographer - captured these shots. The subtle elegance and beautiful architecture of this watch is unmatched. The rare light colored dial with blue hands adds to a unique combination that works well.

What is particularly impressive is just how thin this watch is. That is something that is more and more impressive and important to me as I refine a collection.

However, what is truly striking to me as a collector and a watch nerd is the movement design with these angles based upon the Pythagorean theorem. This movement was designed in 1943. However, see-through case backs were not implemented by Minerva until the 1990s, maybe just a tad earlier. So you had this beautiful movement covered by a case back for about 50 years. Think about that – only the watchmaker or somebody that actually opened up the case back was ever able to see the movement and its beautiful design and architecture. That, to me, is the epitome of an artisan and craftsman - someone who created something magnificent that they could be proud of whether or not the world saw it or not. Incredible.
