Well, the first reason is the size.
My wrist is 6.5" (not so small actually, but it is round, not flat on the top). The colorful tribute is slightly longer than the medium classic, about 3 mm longer if i'm not mistaken. And the colorful tributes have silver hands without lume , which in certain angles, blend with the dial so reduce the legibility. I am a legibility-freak, this factor always a dealbreaker for me when buying a watch.
My frist choice was the Tribute Duo, with the same size as the Medium classic, but the price was out of my budget at that time. And after handled the piece, the grained silver dial was not as nice as in the pictures.
The second reason is, I want a textured dial and arabic numerals. I have many watches with baton markers, only IWC Pilot has the arabic numerals. So I want to make balanced collection.
Third , as you said, the silver dial is , as with all watches, can be matched with any strap.
