Travel?
If your future son-in-law travels for his work then it's a no-brainer. If on the other hand that's not the case, then the 5146 as a gift would be amazing. You can even tell him you;re actually giving him the watch for his safe keeping until your future grandson graduates. (Assuming you've seen the ad campaign)

Why not a Master Calendar....
Since it is closer to the 5146 in complication offering? 39 vs 40mm, Annual calendar vs simple/complete, and the price difference NEW would be huge. -Dean
