Your upset is understandable. It is always hard when you buy something and some moments later a new/better/different version comes out, that you would preferred to have bought.
I have always understood that new models presented at the shows are either concepts of release candidates. Small changes can always be made before entering the store. Buying a model from a photo or show should always go with some sort of reservation.
As mentioned in this post the anti-reflective coating doesn't stick well enough with the engraving on the saphire. I understood this is important for divers (and ofcourse aesthetics). JLC being only satisfied with the highest quality they decided to go for the coating and not the engraving.
Sadly, because the idea was great. But IMHO their choice is understandable.
