Re-installing hands to have them at the midnight postion when the date changes is indeed the normal way to fix the 'date change' issue on a non-complcated watch.
However here we are on an alarm watch, and as you are mentioning the date change delay, I am assuming that the alarm setting is at the time being properly sync'd with the hands (i.e. the alarm goes off when the the hour hand is right above the alarm triangle).
If you were to simply remove the hands and re-install them at the date change, then you would lose the alarm synchronism...
So, I am afraid the dial has to be removed for the proper setting of the alarm disk (not a very complex task, but less straightforward than a simple hands adjustment)
