Like you, I have conflicted feelings about this one. The dial is more attractive than the original Master World Geographic, which felt sterile in some respects. I love this gradient fade with grained/textured surface. Underlying caliber 936 determines the layout, which is functional but scattered.
While JLC has suffered a few lean years from a product standpoint, dial colors and textures have been a welcome highlight; chiseled dials, chameleon dials (Reverso Tribute Small Second), this gradient dial, marbled dials for Reverso Atelier orders, enamel dials, and many finely textured grained dials.

this is an interesting piece..
.. the 24 hours ring in place of the day/night indicator of the master Geo. Kinda make the dial a little busier than I would have like. Still it looks great on your wrist with the blue colour. /W72
This is my favorite of the Polaris models introduced in 2018.
Like many watches, it needs to be seen and handled first-hand, but it passes the "internet eyeball" test for me. Thanks for the post Fx. M4
